GOD’S WORD: HEAR, OBEY, AND BE BLESSED

Do you find it difficult to obey? When we experience hurt, disappointment, or even hypocrisy from the people we are supposed to trust, obedience can be hard. God reminds us that our obedience isn’t based on the perfection of those who lead us, but on our trust in Him as our ultimate authority. When we trust and obey God, He strengthens our spiritual foundation, guides how we lead our families, and teaches us to walk faithfully in obedience to Him.   

OBEY AND BE SECURE   

Jesus described the wise man not only as someone who hears God’s Word, but as someone who puts it into practice (Matthew 7:24–25). Every act of obedience builds a strong foundation in our faith and shapes how we steward what God has entrusted to us, including our families. This is why God’s Word speaks to every area of our lives, and why we cannot be selective about what we follow. As we read and apply His Word, He gives us the guidance and security we need to navigate this world. God doesn’t promise a problem-free life, but He promises that we can stand firm and persevere in His presence.   

DISOBEY AND FACE DISASTER   

If God promises that obedience brings blessing, why do disobedient people still seem to succeed? From the outside, people who disobey can appear successful, but we can never fully know their circumstances or the condition of their hearts. In Luke 12, Jesus illustrates this through a rich man who spent his life pursuing wealth and comfort while forgetting God, only to discover that everything he had gained was ultimately meaningless. When we are deceived into believing that life is all about ourselves, Scripture warns us that ignoring God’s Word and pursuing our own satisfaction will ultimately lead to disaster (Matthew 7:26–27).   

BE IN AWE OF JESUS   

When it’s hard to obey, we are reminded to look to Jesus. Obedience begins with standing in awe of His greatness. Jesus paid the price for our sins, and He holds our lives, our future, and our eternity in His hands (Colossians 1:16–17). When we understand who Jesus is and what He has done for us, obedience becomes more than an obligation. It becomes a joyful response of love, trust, and gratitude.
