In our lives, we will always worship something. We may devote our time, energy, and priorities to ambitions, relationships, or even ourselves. Yet when these desires are placed on a pedestal, they slowly push God out of His rightful place. God’s commandments were never meant to save us but to reveal us. They act as a mirror, exposing the condition of our hearts while guiding and protecting us as we learn to obey. The first two commandments teach us the importance of worship. When worship reflects our intimacy with God, it reveals the true state of our relationship with Him.
WORSHIP GOD EXCLUSIVELY
True worship means giving God your whole heart and not sharing your devotion with anything else. It is not about adding God into our lives but placing Him above everything. Scripture warns against divided worship, where people honor God yet still cling to other things. Jesus teaches that the greatest commandment is to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and reminds us that we cannot serve two masters. What we worship shapes how we live. It influences our decisions, priorities, and identity. This leads to an important question. Have we allowed something to take God’s place in our time, relationships, finances, or even our struggles?
WORSHIP GOD RIGHTLY
It is possible to worship God and still misunderstand Him. Jesus said that the Father seeks those who worship in spirit and in truth. This means our worship must be sincere and grounded in who God truly is, not who we imagine Him to be. Without Scripture, we can easily create a version of God shaped by preference, tradition, or pride. But a distorted view of God leads to distorted worship. Throughout history, people have fallen into this pattern, worshiping created things instead of the Creator. When we surrender fully to God, lay down hidden idols, and learn from His Word, our worship is shaped by truth and our lives are anchored in Him
