WARNING FROM GOD
In Genesis 6, God saw the wickedness and evil in the world and decided to put an end to it. But before bringing judgment, God chose Noah to be a messenger of warning to the people. God told Noah about His plan to flood the earth and instructed him to build an ark to save himself, his family, and a pair of every kind of animal. This must have been a daunting task for Noah because he had never built a structure like an ark before, and there was no indication of rain at that time. However, Noah trusted in God's warning and obeyed His instructions. As a result, Noah was saved along with his family and the animals. God's warning to Noah reminds us that God is patient and merciful towards humanity. He doesn't immediately bring judgment. He is patient, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:8-9)
WALKING WITH GOD
Noah was not a perfect man, but he found favor in the eyes of God because of his faithfulness and obedience. Despite living in a wicked and corrupt world, Noah chose to walk with God. This choice resulted in Noah finding grace and favor with God. God promised to take care of Noah and his family, and this promise was repeated several times in Scripture (Genesis 6:18; 9:9, 9:11, 9:12, 9:13, 9:15, 9:17). Walking with God requires a daily commitment to listen to His voice, worship Him, pray, read His Word, and spend time in His presence. It is a journey that requires faith and obedience. If we choose to walk with God, He will never leave us nor forsake us. We can trust in His promises, and we can have confidence that He will guide us through every step of our journey.
WORKING FOR GOD
God has a purpose for each one of us, and He calls us to do something with our lives that will bring glory to Him. For Noah, it was a massive task to build an ark, a vessel that could save his family and the animals from the flood that was to come. God gave specific instructions and Noah obeyed Him completely (Genesis 6:14-16). Noah worked tirelessly on the ark for 120 years, despite being ridiculed and mocked by his peers. His obedience to God's commands did not end when he entered the ark. He continued to work diligently, caring for the animals and his family, as he waited for the floodwaters to recede. Like Noah, we are called to work for God and fulfill His purposes for our lives. It may not be building an ark — it could be serving others, sharing the Gospel, or using our talents and abilities for His glory. Whatever it may be, let us obey God wholeheartedly and work diligently, knowing that He is with us every step of the way.
WITNESS ABOUT GOD
Noah's life was a powerful witness for God, even though no one listened to him. His faithfulness in obeying God and building the ark condemned the wickedness of the world and convicted those around him. Our lives should also make non-believers question their disbelief in God. Noah's obedience not only saved him and his family, but it also served as a testimony for future generations. He built an altar to the Lord after leaving the ark, and God showed him a rainbow as a reminder of His faithfulness and grace.
Noah's story reminds us of the judgment to come, but it also points us to the One who rescues us from it. Jesus Christ is the greater Noah who offers us salvation through His death and resurrection. Let us follow in the footsteps of Noah and boldly proclaim the message of hope that is found in Christ!
