In a world full of distractions, it’s easy to lose sight of why we’re here on this earth. But when you belong to Jesus, life is no longer random or accidental. God has placed a unique calling on your life, one that’s part of His greater mission for the world. When we give our lives to Jesus, we're called to live a mission-driven lifestyle. Let’s dive into the “what”, “how”, “who”, and the example of Nehemiah when it comes to this divine calling.
The “What”: Our Mission
Jesus gave us a clear and timeless command in Matthew 28:19 to “go and make disciples.” This Great Commission isn’t optional – it's our life’s mission. It’s more than attending church every week, it’s a call to action to share the Gospel, to teach others about Jesus, to baptize them in His name, and help them grow in their faith.
The “How”: With All Your Heart
We are to work on our mission with all our heart. That means working on it intentionally, asking God for creativity, strength, and strategy so that we can serve Him excellently. The task may be huge, but God can do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20). Pray boldly God to equip you to fulfill His purpose for your life. As C.T. Studd said, “Only one life, it will soon be past; only what’s done for Christ will last.”
The “Who”: The Harvest
In Matthew 9:35-38, Jesus had compassion for the crowds. Today, those crowds are our families, coworkers, classmates, and unreached people across the globe. Jim Elliot said, “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what cannot lose.” Remember that life is short. Millions still haven’t heard of Jesus!
Learn From Nehemiah’s Example
Don’t let distractions keep you from completing your mission. Nehemiah rebuilt Jerusalem’s walls despite opposition (Nehamiah 4, 6). He stayed focused, ignored critics, and led people to work with all their heart. Like Nehemiah, we must keep our eyes on Jesus. The enemy may seek to distract or destroy, and challenges may attempt to hinder your as you pursue God’s calling, but faithfulness leads to victory and the Holy Spirit strengthens us through every trial. Let’s run with perseverance, live with purpose, and stay on mission until the task is complete.
