MAY 24, 2026 SERMON SUMMARY
We’ve all justified small acts of stealing in one way or another. It can happen when we borrow without returning, take credit that isn’t ours, or assume something is free to keep. These actions may seem harmless, but true worship means recognizing God as both the Owner and Provider of all things. When we understand that everything belongs to Him, we learn to live with integrity, trusting that what God provides is enough and that He will give us what we truly need.
RECOGNIZE THE MANY WAYS WE STEAL
We may think we are innocent of stealing, but stealing goes beyond obvious theft. We can steal from others by taking credit for their work, withholding honor and appreciation, or failing to return what we borrowed. We can also steal from God when we neglect our time, devotion, and worship toward Him. Scripture also warns against distorting God’s Word or speaking falsely in His name (Jer. 23:30–32). When we take the glory meant for God alone, we rob Him of the honor He deserves (Isa. 42:8). Stealing is not only a sin of the hands but also a reflection of a heart that forgets God is the true Owner of all things.
REPENT OF THE HEART BEHIND STEALING
Whenever we steal, we reveal a heart that distrusts God and rejects Him as our Provider. When we remember that everything belongs to Him (Psalm 24:1), we can trust that He will provide what we need in His perfect timing (Phil. 4:19). If we do not guard our hearts, small compromises can slowly grow. Instead of depending on God, we begin relying on our own judgment and desires. When we make room for compromise, we also open the door for Satan to deceive us and lead us away from God’s design for love, justice, and stewardship. In the end, sin not only damages our lives but also harms others (John 10:10).
REPLACE TAKING WITH BLESSING
In a culture that encourages taking, God calls us to become a blessing through honest work and generosity. Through Jesus Christ, a taker can become a giver. Jesus paid the debt we could never repay. Because of His grace, we are able to give freely even in seasons of lack, trusting that He has already provided what we truly need. As we remember His generosity toward us, our hearts begin to change. We learn to serve, give, restore, and bless others through the way we live (Eph. 4:28; Acts 20:35).
1. What are some ways you may be stealing without realizing it?
2. What does stealing reveal about our trust in God, contentment, or love for others?
3. What is one practical way you or your family can move from “taking” to “giving” this week?
MEMORY VERSE:
He who steals must steal no longer; but rather he must labor, performing with his own hands what is good, so that he will have something to share with one who has need.
(Ephesians 4:28)
