APRIL 26, 2026 SERMON SUMMARY
In a world as fast-paced as ours, it is easy to be swept along by the constant rush of life. When our lives become consumed by our own pursuits, our worship slowly shifts. Instead of being centered on God, it begins to reflect the priorities of the world. True worship acts like a thermometer, measuring our intimacy with the Lord and revealing how deeply we value Him. It is our proper response to who He is and what He has done. We worship rightly when we honor His name in everything we do and trust Him enough to surrender to rest and renewal on His appointed day, the Sabbath.
HONOR HIS NAME
God’s name reflects His character, which is why we are called to treat it with reverence and care. We misuse His name when we speak it casually, make promises we do not keep, use it to advance personal agendas, or claim to follow Him without living according to His commands. Scripture also warns against living in a way that dishonors Him, as His name may be misrepresented through us (Romans 2:24).
Jesus teaches us to honor God’s name by keeping it holy (Matthew 6:9) and by giving thanks in all we do (Colossians 3:17). As we grow in honoring Him through our words and actions, we begin to see our circumstances in light of who He is rather than relying on our own understanding.
HONOR HIS SABBATH
At times, choosing rest can make us feel guilty. In a culture driven by constant productivity, slowing down may seem like falling behind. Yet this is often where God invites us to examine our hearts. The Sabbath is not an act of laziness, but a gift. It is an invitation to trust Him, to be renewed, and to realign our lives around His presence.
After six days of work, God calls us to set apart one day for rest and worship (Exodus 20:8–10). This rhythm reflects His wisdom and reminds us that He is our provider. We honor Him when we observe the Sabbath, resist self-reliance, and choose to trust Him with our time and our needs. Ultimately, true rest is found in Christ, who invites us to come to Him and be refreshed (Matthew 11:28).
How do we dishonor God’s name, and how can we honor it in our daily lives?
Why is it important to observe the Sabbath, and how do we do it today?
MEMORY VERSE:
You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not [d]leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. (Exodus 20:7-8)
