MAY 17, 2026 SERMON SUMMARY
When the world normalizes following our desires at the expense of others, it becomes easy to excuse lust, compromise, and unfaithfulness. This is why many people assume the 7th commandment, “You shall not commit adultery,” only applies to married couples. But adultery goes deeper than physical betrayal. To “adulterate” means to corrupt something pure by adding what does not belong. In the same way, when we turn our hearts away from God and give our devotion to something else, sin contaminates what He intended to be holy and pure. Because God is faithful, He calls us to reflect His faithfulness in the way we live, love, and honor our commitments.
Deadly Disease: The Adultery Pandemic
We live in a culture where infidelity, lust, pornography, emotional affairs, and secret compromise are often normalized. But Jesus raised the standard by teaching that adultery begins in the heart—even lustful thoughts make us guilty before God (Matthew 5:27–28). This reveals that adultery is not only a marriage issue, but ultimately a heart issue.
Scripture reminds us that sin flows from within (Matthew 15:19). When our hearts are pulled away from God and consumed by other desires, we commit spiritual adultery by being devoted to something other than Him. As the bride of Christ, we are called to remain faithfully devoted to God alone (2 Corinthians 11:2–3).
Divine Cure: The Faithfulness of God
Although adultery carries devastating consequences, God’s grace is greater than our failures. No matter how far we fall or how broken we may feel, God’s faithful character never changes. Through Jesus Christ, there is forgiveness, healing, and restoration for those who sincerely turn back to Him.
When we truly experience God’s faithfulness, it transforms the way we live. We begin growing in faithfulness to Him, in purity and integrity, and in the way we love and honor others. The more we know the faithful God behind the commandment, the more we are empowered to faithfully obey Him and reflect His character to the world.

2. Have you ever committed spiritual adultery? Share your experience.

(Exodus 20:14)
