NXTGEN KIDS CHURCH SUMMER BREAK ON MARCH 16-MAY 16. NXTGEN RESUMES ON MAY 17 2026!
MARCH 8, 2026 SERMON SUMMARY
When the chaos of the world feels overwhelming and the days seem uncertain, it is easy to feel anxious or discouraged. Yet in the middle of instability, James reminds us of an unchanging truth: God is still on His throne. Even amid overwhelming circumstances, He remains in control. He is our loving Creator who works out His purpose according to His perfect plan. Amid uncertainty and turmoil, He invites us to cast our anxieties on Him and find peace in surrendering to His sovereign care. One way to live this out is by surrendering our plans, actions, and resources to God.
SURRENDER OUR PLANS
Planning for the future is natural. We set goals, prepare for opportunities, and try to anticipate what might happen next. However, when our plans are made without seeking God first, we can slowly begin to rely on our own control instead of His guidance. James reminds us that we cannot truly predict what tomorrow will bring. The reality is that our lives are short and uncertain, and no amount of preparation can guarantee the future (James 4:13-14). Instead, James encourages us to say, “If the Lord will, we will live and do this or that” (James 4:15). In the same way, Psalm 37:5 reminds us, “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act.”
SURRENDER OUR ACTIONS
Knowing what God wants us to do is important, but knowledge alone is not enough. James warns that if we know the right thing to do, but fail to do it, it is a sin (James 4:17). Sometimes we delay obedience because of fear, comfort, or hesitation, yet partial obedience is still disobedience. James calls believers not only to hear God’s Word, but to put it into practice (James 1:22). Jesus also warns us about selective obedience and its consequences in Luke 12:47. Surrendering our actions means responding to God’s commands with humility and wholehearted obedience.
SURRENDER OUR WEALTH
The Bible does not forbid us from saving or having wealth, but it does warn against placing our hope in possessions instead of God. In fear, panic, or the pursuit of satisfaction and pleasure, we can place our security in our wealth or capacity to provide rather than trusting in God. Likewise, James rebuked wealthy believers who trust their riches rather than stewarding them faithfully. Rather than focusing on our earthly treasures, Jesus calls us to store up treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:19-20), while Paul reminds us to place our hope in God, not in riches, and to be generous with what He has given us (1 Timothy 6:17-19). Everything we have ultimately belongs to God. When we surrender our resources to Him, we begin to use our time, abilities, and wealth to love others and invest in what truly lasts. In a world filled with uncertainty, true peace is found when we surrender our plans, actions, and resources to the God who holds the future.
